Today, 19 September 2012, marks the fourth anniversary of the launch of Scotland's Gaelic-language television channel, BBC ALBA. Launched in 2008, the channel was set-up to provide regular programming for Scotland’s estimated 90,000 Gaelic-speaking population while reaching a wider audience of English speaking viewers. BBC ALBA now attracts a weekly audience in excess of 500,000 per week, plus over 50,000 iPlayer weekly hits.
